So . . . where’s Maytown Lake?

Maytown Lake is about 10 minutes South of Olympia, and just East of I-5.

Maytown Lake is about ½ mile long – man-made, and was built for tournament water skiing. It’s an outstanding place to fly.

Where: Driving Directions:
Exit 95 from I-5
East 1/2 mile on Maytown Rd.
South 1 mile on Reeder Rd
East/Left on 140th Ave SW a couple blocks to entry gate on your Right (entry sign)

When: 9am – 5:00pm

Other: AMA required / food avail / $10 landing fee / open flying all day / recovery boat / clean restrooms

FGF Meeting Tues 3/11 - at the lodge / 7:00PM

Don't miss this month's meeting. Following a brief report on field topics, we have video coverage of the 2007 XFC (International Extreme Flight Championships) held this last summer at the AMA fields in Muncie, Indiana. It's the toughest 3-D event in the world! We'll have the projector there, and "big screen"
We're meeting in the lodge as usual - and if you have a project underway, or new plane - bring it along. We have lots of room there.

URGENT MATTER ! - Management Plan Violation

In a recent incident at the field, a plane was inadvertently landed outside of the Flight Zone, and outside of the Park Boundaries. The pilot then violated the Management Plan as follows:

1. Failed to contact the Ranger immediately to arrange recovery of the plane.
2. Contacted the property owner, and then went onto the private property.
3. Submitted a report of the incident on the wrong form - (a Violation Report Form)

The Executive Committee, and Advisory Committee have met, and imposed a 90 day suspension of flying privilidges for the offending pilot, and additional training on the Management Plan.

This serious Violation could easily have resulted in permanent closure of the field. PLEASE - Make sure you understand the Management Plan in it's entirety.

Museum of Flight Group Field Trip - Th. 2/7

Hey Flyers . . Plan to join the group for a FREE self-guided tour of the Museum of Flight at Boeing Field. Thanks to sponsor Wells Fargo Bank, the admission fee of $14.00 is totally waived from 5-9pm on the first Thursday of each month. We plan to carpool from here (Dean's in SeaTac) or just meet us at the entry at 5:00pm. Our Safety Coordinator (Rob Clement) has suggested a user forum on the topic of Safety, so we've added one to the site. This would be a great place to share stories where someone has been hurt, pictures of prop-bites or anything else that will remind us all to pay extra careful attention to the dangers of this hobby. You can find the new topic in our User Forums area.

2008 New Years Day Fun Fly

The Flaming Geyser Annual new years day Fun Fly was a success! The food was great, the attendance by pilots and spectators was impressive and the crashes were few! Overall, fun was had by all.

EASY Renewal of Solo Card for 2008

In order to obtain the Solo Permit Sticker for your 2008 AMA card, please complete these 2 forms:

New Years Day Fun-Fly 10:00 AM Tues. 1/1/2008

The Fun-Fly will begin at 10:00AM, lunch at noon - BBQ burgers, hot chili, and soda. (suggested $3.00 donation)
Open flying all day - and we'll be able to process your 2008 renewal on-site if you bring your 2008 AMA card (or better yet, a photocopy of it)
Rain-out date is the following Saturday 1/5/2008 at 10:00AM

Election for next years Officers

Nominations for officers for the 2008 term will be taken at the meeting in November (2nd Tuesday). Our president has announced that this will be his final term, so everyone is encouraged to consider individuals that you would like to nominate for the new positions and attend the meeting.

Voting on the nominated candidates will be conducted at the Christmas Potluck on December 1st.

5th annual Christmas Potluck

We are having our 5th annual Christmas Potluck at the park ELC building again this year. This will be on Saturday December 1st at 5:00pm.

There will be great food and prizes and a joint Raffle with the Lake Sawyer Hawks.

Don't forget that we have a fun-fly coming up this Saturday, June the 23rd! It will be from 9:30am to 4:30pm. All AMA Members are welcome, just bring your membership card along!

Hamburgers, Soft drinks and Chips will be available for a small donation. This will be a great event, so invite all your friends and lets have a great time!

Special Speaker at this months meeting!

We are having our monthly meeting Tuesday a 7pm at FLAMING GEYSER STATE PARK in the ELC building at the upper end of the park.

We are having a special speaker. He is a former Blue Angels Pilot.

We will be having BBQ hamburgers / potluck at the flying field that day at 4pm, then we will move to the ELC building to have the meeting at 7pm.

We will be issueing new 2007 stickers for your AMA card.

If you have a 2006 Flaming Geyser Flyer sticker already and have your new 2007 AMA card bring it and a PHOTOCOPY OF YOUR CURRENT AMA CARD and then we will issue you a new 2007 sticker for your card.
